  • Davina McCall will join the flamboyant shirt-wearer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

BBC Changing Rooms is being given a reboot which will see it return to Channel 4 alongside new host Davina McCall.

The show, which was aired on BBC 1 and BBC 2 from 1997 to 2004, is making an iconic return with the former Big Brother presenter joining interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen for the brand new series of the home improvement show.

For anyone who didn’t watch the show in it’s 90s hey day, the format follows two sets of homeowners as they race against the clock to transform a room in each others’ houses.

Davina, 52, is confirmed to replace original host Carol Smillie and fans are so excited, they’ve been sharing their thoughts on Twitter about the show’s return.

Laurence helped kick-start the nostalgia as he tweeted a 20-year-old throwback snap and captioned it ‘….The Year 2000 & The Year 2020, Changing Rooms reboots. I’m ready but is The World….?’

And fans, many of whom will have been organising their homes like Mrs Hinch and Stacey Solomon throughout lockdown adding candles and cushions, cannot get enough of the news.

One wrote, ‘This is brilliant news. I seem to recall a leather kilt the first time round. Will it make a reappearance?’

Another wrote, ‘I have been haunted since my childhood by a zebra print spray paint job you did on someone’s living room on the original Changing Rooms. Please, I love your style, but I beg you no zebra print.’

And another fan added, Just don’t make any poor householders cry this time,’ as the show was known to have not met everyone’s taste when it comes to interior shopping.

Meanwhile one fan joked that lockdown has already had people revamping their homes. He wrote, ‘After this year, are there any rooms left to change?’

While some fans are sad that Carol Smillie won’t be making a return for the six one hour long episodes, they are keen to see Davina, who is also confirmed for the new series of ITV’s The Masked Singer, in action.

One fan wrote, ‘I am pleased to hear of the reboot as this was one of my favourite programs, but I do think it is bad that carol smilie is not coming back even after she said in august that she would like too. She was a huge part of the success of the program as with big brother without devina!’ (sic)

A second put, ‘Bring it back I say. We need some escapism.’

Speaking about her new role, Davina said, ‘I’m so excited to be presenting Changing Rooms. It’s a classic. It’s the perfect time to bring it back, everyone is going DIY and decor mad. I can’t wait to see all the amazing transformations – I might even get stuck in myself if I’m allowed to be let loose with a paint brush.’

Linda Barker, Anna Ryder-Richardson and Graham Wynne along with carpenter Andy Kane also starred in the show. And here was one of Linda’s best moments…
