It’s official, summer is over.
That brief stint of golden autumnal warmth back in early September is now but a distant dream, with the nights drawing in and a chill in the air. But there are some plus sides to the colder weather, like cosy evenings spent in front of the fires, relaxing on the sofa with a feel-good or gripping classic film. A great classic film can transport you somewhere else entirely, providing a welcome dose of escapism, especially at the moment.
A good rainy day film should prompt the same cosiness as curling up with a warm drink, slipping on some wooly socks or tucking into your favourite comfort food. In fact, we recommend these as the perfect accompaniments to your evening on the sofa. But deciding exactly which classic film to go for can sometimes be a bit of a chore. So we’ve done the hard work for you and rounded up our favourite classic films to watch when the weather takes a turn for the worst.
From Thelma and Louise’s doomed road trip across the USA, to Russell Crowe sampling wine in the French countryside in A Good Year, to the escapades of young journalist Andy on the New York Fashion scene in The Devil Wears Prada, there’s something for every mood. From tear jerkers and emotional watches, to lighthearted and heartwarming comedies, to dramatic, action-packed epic classic films, there’s plenty to choose from here. Happy watching!
