Sephora is known as the place to pick up everything from the best mascara, cult new make up primer or hair mask everyone’s talking about. Yet despite French beauty behemoth’s reputation travelling as far as the UK, bricks and mortar stores are yet to follow.
Not only that, but in 2018 Sephora stopped shipping to the United Kingdom entirely, meaning unless you have international travel plans (not likely at the minute) it’s not easy to get your hands on those juicy Sephora beauty brands.
And while some of the best beauty advent calendars offer some Sephora favourites among their many luxury beauty treats, where can you buy the products individually?
Well, when it comes to beauty, where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Sephora has an excellent reputation for finding and curating little-known and niche brands, but as anyone who has set foot inside on of their stores will tell you, plenty of those brands are available to buy online in the UK too – you just have to know where to look.
You probably already know where to pick up major brands that Sephora stocks like Chanel, NARS and Clarins, all of which are easily available in department stores or our own beloved beauty mecca, Boots.

Products come in very groovy stand-out packaging and the enormous range includes styling, haircare and my personal favourite, the easiest hair waving tool of all time.
Anastasia Beverly Hills
Anastasia Soare is the go-to brow artist for Hollywood’s A-List, and her excellent beauty range more than matches up to her impeccable reputation.
Obviously, the eyebrow products are top drawer, but the gorgeously toned pigment-packed eye palettes have earned a huge cult following with good reason too.
This California-based skincare brand launched into Sephora in 2017 and has since become one of its top selling ranges. The USP is squalane, a plant-derived ingredient that replenishes our skin’s natural squalene (with an e) levels. This is a lipid in our skin that helps it feel plump and moisturised, but depletes with age.
Every product in the range contains nourishing squalane, and is formulated sustainably using natural ingredients and in recyclable packaging. Our favourite products are the 100% Squalane oil, which can be used on the face body and hair, and the Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil.
Ask any US or French Beauty Editor to name a hairdressing guru and chances are Christophe Robin’s name will come up.
His legendary Atelier has welcomed every supermodel going and his ultra-luxurious range makes the best of natural botanicals to create effective solutions.
If you try one thing, make it the Cleansing Purifying Scrub With Sea Salt.
This classy perfume brand creates scents that are as exactly as they sound: Clean.
They burst onto the scene with fragrances based on Clean Laundry and Warm Cotton, and have now moved into citrus and warm solar styles without losing their refreshing, unisex characteristics.
So many brands claim to be ‘clean’ but this New York born brand really lives and breathes the philosophy, sustainably growing and farming their own fresh, chemical-free ingredients.
This cleanser, made with fruit seed oils and exfoliating papaya enzymes is a great example of how natural products needn’t compromise on efficacy.
Four words: Best dry shampoo ever. Seriously.
This product actually makes hair feel clean, not dull or claggy or padded out with oil-absorbing powders, just fresh and lovely like it’s just been washed (minus the flyaways).
Anyway there is much more to this brand than just the dry shampoo, their shtick is science and plenty of it, so the shampoos and masks are well worth a go too.
This brand is the brainchild of possibly the coolest hair stylist in the world right now, Jen Atkin.
As well as her roster of A-List clients Jen is a star in her own right and has amassed millions of online followers for her fun video tutorials and likeably direct approach to making hair look great.
This, her product line, is an absolute smash with innovative products (hello dry shampoo foam) plus my favourite Fine Shampoo (there are medium and thick versions too) with the most gorgeous fragrance that actually sticks around, giving you in lovely little wafts throughout the day.
Peter Thomas Roth
Skincare that really works is the philosophy of first PTR, and it shows in the products.
This brand is particularly well known for its active-packed masks and treatments, which are crammed with high levels of active ingredients and often have the tingle to prove it.
If you’re not particularly sensitive and like to get bang for you buck try the cult Pumpkin Enzyme Mask, it deeply exfoliates leaving skin ultra smooth and glowing (and in my case, a touch pink too)
Sol de Janiero
This Brazilian-inspired body brand can’t help but put a smile on your face.
The only thing better than their cheeky names (Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is a particular highlight) is the way these products smell. Think caramel, praline, pistachio and everything else sweet and sexy, but with woody undertones to keep things grown up, not sickly.
Body creams are how Sol de Janiero made their name, but just about everything is worth a shot. We love the Samba Foot Fetish Cream with it’s kitsch surfboard foot file, or the Rio Sunset Glow Motion, a beautifully shimmery instant bronzing body oil.
There were times when this cult cruelty-free brand felt like it would never arrive in the UK. Even worse, US Beauty Editors and influencers wouldn’t stop banging on about it.
So what is it about this brand that fans love? It’s billed as ‘high performance naturals’ and that pretty neatly sums it up. Mineral cosmetics often sacrifice pigment or colour payoff to stick to their natural ethos, but Tarte is truly a best of both worlds situation.
Luckily for us, arrive it did (eventually) so we can enjoy their best-selling wares including Shape Tape Concealer, Tartlette eye palettes and the Amazonian Clay Bronzer.
Say the name Tata Harper in a room full of beauty fans and you’ll be met with a sea of superlatives. ‘Amazing’, ‘incredbile’ and ‘life-chaging’ are all likely to come up, and here’s why.
Most ‘clean’ beauty aims for simplicty – the fewer ingredients the better – but this brand prides itself on its complexity.
This is serious, active thoughfully-formulated skincare that just so happens to be green.
