The actress will take the lead in this film adaptation
Normal People fans will be excited to learn that leading lady Daisy Edgar-Jones has landed herself a new lead role in Reese Witherspoon’s adaptation film of Where the Crawdads Sing.
Actress turned producer Reese, might well be reprising her role following the Legally Blonde 3 release date , but she’s also taken Daisy under her wing for a new producing project.
And Daisy, 22, couldn’t believe her own luck when she announced the news to her fans on social media. She shared a screen shot of the news with the caption, “I can’t actually believe this!?”
The young actress will play lead character Kya, in the movie which is based on the novel by Delia Owens and set in America’s Deep South.
Kya is a young woman who finds herself abandoned by her parents and left alone on a marsh just outside a small town in North Carolina. She becomes a respected author but then finds herself accused of the murder of her former boyfriend Chase Andrews.
Daisy was flung into the limelight following her portrayal of Marianne in the adaption of Sally Rooney’s book Normal People, which is among Amazon’s most popular books to read in lockdown.
And Paul Mescal, who played on-off love interest Connell her in the BBC series, was just as supportive off screen by sharing the news too on his social media.
Meanwhile, Reece Witherspoon, who is co-producing the film alongside Lauren Neustadter, is delighted with the casting. she wrote, “So excited to have @daisyedgarjones joining this production!”
They will be producing with their company Hello Sunshine for Sony Pictures.
Olivia Newman wrote and directed the Netflix film First Match in 2018 and will direct this movie, while Oscar-nominated Lucy Alibar will write the script.
It is not yet known when filming will start for Where the Crawdads Sing or when the film is expected to be released but 2020 is certainly turning out to be a good year for Daisy.
