Piers Morgan and his wife Celia were caught up in a terrifying raid whilst on holiday in the South of France.
While nothing taken was of “great value,” Celia, 44, was left most upset after thieves took a sentimental piece of jewellery bought for her to mark their fifth wedding anniversary.
Opening up about the burglary, which happened on the day they were due to fly back to the UK, Celia said, “The jewellery part did sting. It still stings now, almost a week on.
“The art deco ring my husband had bought me for our fifth wedding anniversary; the vintage Pucci cuff I’d picked up a flea market in LA; those earrings I’d bought from Alfies Antique Market on the Edgware Road when my first book advance came through: every last piece I had with me was gone, none of it of great value, all of it irreplaceable.”
Describing the moment she realised their home had been invaded, she wrote in her Telegraph column, “My handbag was upside-down on the sofa, the box I keep my jewellery in lying empty beside it.
“The up-turned handbag found in the sitting room had originally been on a chair in our bedroom.”
The thought of the intruders watching them sleep made her “feel sick”.
“They must have crept in there and stood inches away from us while we slept.”
Piers, 55, had escaped to France to enjoy some downtime after a gruelling few months working on Good Morning Britain.
And now he’s confirmed when he’ll be returning to the show, tweeting, “I’ll be back on Sep 1.”
Piers and Celia have enjoyed a happy 10-year marriage and the controversial TV star recently revealed the secret behind their successful union.
The journalist recently revealed “the best advice about marriages and relationships” he’s ever received was from French singer Charles Aznavour who Piers interviewed just before he passed away back in 2018.
Revealing that he spoke to the star during “his last television interview,” which he admitted he “was so lucky to get before he very sadly died”, Piers said, “I said to him ‘you’ve been married for 50/60 years or something like that, so what’s the secret?’
“And he said ‘one of you has to shut up’, which actually if you think about it is great advice.”
He’s got a point!
