The Duke of Cambridge has hinted he’s not the best chef in a telling foreword for a charity cookbook.
Prince William has confirmed he’s not the cook of the house as he opens up about family life.
The Duke of Cambridge joked about his cooking skills – or lack of – in the foreword for A Taste Of Home, a cookbook being launched to celebrate 40 years of The Passage – a homelessness charity close to his heart.
In it, he recalls volunteering in the kitchens at The Passage and how the staff “very sensibly kept me in the role of sous chef (aka carrot-chopper).”
Touching on the important work of The Passage in “looking after the most vulnerable in society”, William, 38, added, “On that occasion I ‘made’ a Spaghetti Bolognese (recipe on page 101). The dish smelt amazing – probably because I didn’t cook it.
“But what struck me most was how sharing a hot meal in the canteen at The Passage makes people who are experiencing homelessness feel right at home.”
While the work of The Passage has always been important, the covid-19 pandemic has been an even tougher time for those without a home.
The Duke explained, “Having a place to call home is precious. All of us will have felt the strain of staying in our homes during the Coronavirus lockdown.
“But for those without a place to call home, the pandemic has been even more frightening.”
Thankfully, Prince William went on to explain how The Passage has supported those in need during the pandemic in several ways.
“They work tirelessly on the frontline, looking after the most vulnerable in society. At the peak of the crisis, they established a mobile Food Hub, providing hot, nutritious meals every day for over 300 people.”
A Taste of Home is set to be released on 15th October and is made up of recipes from a whole host of famous famous – including Gino D’Acampo and Mary Berry.
All proceeds from the book will support those who are directly affected by homelessness.
