For many of us, it just doesn’t feel like Christmas until the John Lewis Christmas advert has hit our screens.
From the joyous, to the tear-jerking (we still remember 2013’s bear and the hare Christmas advert), John Lewis never disappoints.
Now with restrictions tightening and festive plans uncertain, we’re facing a Christmas like never before. The nation has never been more in need of some traditional cheer.
So it’s a relief to us all that the retailer will be releasing its traditional advert this year.
Not only that, but it promises to be bigger and better than ever.
When will the John Lewis Christmas 2020 advert be released?
Though the retailer is yet to confirm the release date of the Christmas advert 2020, there are already signs it’s on the way.
In past years the festive teasers for the John Lewis Christmas adverts have been released in mid-November.
From the penguin back in 2014, to 2019’s outcast dragon Edgar, the short films are always highly anticipated.
And whilst it’s common for viewers to shed a tear or two, 2020’s advert is set to be even more heart-warming than usual.
What makes the 2020 Christmas advert different?
John Lewis has recently announced plans to raise £5 million to help vulnerable families through the Christmas season. They are also encouraging customers to help their local communities during the festive period.
This year the advert will draw attention to families who have been hit hardest by the coronavirus crisis. It is perhaps likely that it will feature themes such as community support and caring for others within the short film.
The new initiative is in collaboration with food poverty charity FareShare and parental support charity Home-Start.
Pippa Wicks, executive director of John Lewis & Partners has been reported as stating, “In a year like no other the world has changed – so we will be delivering a Christmas campaign like no other.”
She went on to talk of the “inspiring and heartwarming acts of kindness” that have been seen during 2020.
“Now we want to build on this spirit to create a legacy that extends well beyond Christmas. Together we can all make a big difference to the families who need our help most,” she remarked.
CEO of Home-Start UK Peter Grigg, added that, “This powerful campaign will ensure Home-Start is there for families who need us most. We have seen first-hand how the pandemic is pushing families to the edge, especially those already facing significant challenges in their lives.”
He spoke of working with John Lewis, saying that, “We are so proud to partner in this exciting ambition to transform the lives of thousands of families and children this Christmas and beyond.”
With this invaluable commitment, it seems certain that John Lewis Christmas advert 2020 will be one to remember.
